Weston Post 501,
We are supporting the West Platte High School parents' group in raising money for the West Platte High School band and choir trip to Pearl Harbor to play at the 80th anniversary of the Japanese surrender. They will be playing and singing dockside of the USS Missouri battleship. They will be the only school in Missouri to play at this event so it will be a very special event for the kids and the state of Missouri!
Our Post support to the event will be a $500 donation to the fund as well as using a "traveling model" of the USS Missouri to be present at some of the fundraising events. We have also reached out to other American Legion Posts in Missouri informing them of the event and asking for support for the kids.
The events are evolving and we hope to get more details later in April but here are some of the events the ship model will be at and we hope to have Post 501 members there as well.
25 April - West Platte High School Invitational Track Meet. We intend to have the ship model there as well as post representatives in uniform. More to follow on this.
26 April - "Bigfoot Search" event in Weston, Missouri. We intend to have the ship model there as well as post representatives in uniform. More to follow on this.
10 May - Polish pottery festival. We intend to have the ship model there as well as post representatives in uniform. More to follow on this.
10 May - West Platte High School Reunion. We intend to have the ship model there as well as post representatives in uniform. More to follow on this.
There will be many more summer fundraising events but the parents committee is still working through those. So once again, more information will follow after the 21 April parents meeting. We will also present the $500 check to the parents committee at this April meeting.
